Russell is approximately three and a half hours north of Auckland. As you head north you'll pass through the towns of Orewa, Warkworth, Wellsford, Whangarei and Kawakawa. About 15 minutes beyond Kawakawa, take the turn off for the car ferry at Opua. The ferry runs continuously from 6.50am to 10.00pm and there is no need to book for the quick 5 minute crossing. The ferry docks at Okiato the backpackers is the first left 20m off the ferry.
